Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Dune: Part Two and Dune MessiahAlthough Dune: Part Two accurately captured many aspects of Frank Herbert's novel, bringing some scenes to the big screen for the first time, one major change means that Dune 3 will have to take a very different direction from its source material.
In Dune: Part Two, these Chani changes help make her character more interesting and create an interesting source of tension around Paul's motivations. However, by abandoning Paul for the desert, her character transforms Dune 3's potential story, forcing it to radically deviate from Dune Messiah. The key reason for this is that Paul and Chani's relationship is central, both personally and politically, to not just the novel's plot, but the entire direction of the Dune saga.
This tension is key to Dune Messiah. Throughout the novel, Paul is wracked with guilt – knowing that by maintaining his relationship with Chani he is inflicting unfathomable horror across his empire. This dilemma is foreshadowed by his visions in Dune: Part One and Part Two. However, with Chani having left Paul in Dune: Part Two's ending, this terrible choice seems unlikely to be presented in the same way in Dune 3.
Can Dune 3 Still Do Paul & Chani's Book Story In Any Way? Close Although their relationship is much more rocky than what's seen in the novels, Dune 3 could – and probably will – take elements of Paul and Chani's Messiah story. Paul's Dune: Part Two visions already made it clear that he is liable to choose a potentially deadly course of action if it means saving Chani's life.
