By declaring it an emergency, the notice states, “it shall be unlawful for any person to draw water from the public water supply except for essential and other ordinary household uses until further notice. Users should evaluate your personal and business activities involving water and take all possible steps to reduce your usage.”
It defines non essential uses including exterior watering of lawns or gardens, washing of vehicles or trailers, washing of outdoor surfaces, filling of pools or the operation of fire hydrants under non-emergency conditions. Penalties for violating the order range from $100 to $1,000 and/or restrictions on the violator’s water service.
The notice make it clear that additional water losses may result in the need to haul water into the storage reservoir which comes at considerable cost to the borough and is passed on water users.
