Those arrested for DUI can expect the consequences to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses, 'not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out,' said the SFPD.
The San Francisco Police Department announced on Thursday it will establish checkpoints to keep watch for impaired drivers during Memorial Day.
The department said in a statement that its Traffic Unit will conduct DUI saturation patrol checkpoints from Monday 7 p.m. to Tuesday 3 a.m., which will be manned by officers looking out for drug and alcohol impairment. "Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20% when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely," according to the SPFD.
The department also said that, when possible, specially trained officers will evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. According to the SFPD, a study showed more active drivers tested positive for drugs that may impair driving than did for alcohol . Police warned those who are caught driving impaired and arrested for DUI can expect the consequences to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000,"not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out."
