SAN ANTONIO - Authorities confirm that a duck was brutally killed Monday in front of a popular restaurant along the Riverwalk .
Our District Attorney’s Office needs to hold criminals accountable and not write tickets or ignore crime thinking it will just go away. We have encountered the brutal killing of ducks on the Riverwalk in the past and our community has loudly voiced their outrage at this violent and disgusting behavior. This duck had its neck wrung and was slammed on the concrete and stomped ona horrific death.
As Park Police officers, it is our goal to protect Parks, the Riverwalk, and our community as a whole from crime and danger. Our Riverwalk is a global tourist destination, and we must protect our citizens, tourists and wildlife from harm. The Park Police Officers Association is calling on District Attorney Joe Gonzales to revisit his team’s actions and prosecute this crime to the fullest extent of the law. Crimes of this nature, where helpless animals are brutally killed, often are warning signs of a potential escalation of criminal behavior in the future. This person must be prosecuted.
It has been over 10 years since George, a beloved duck along the Riverwalk, was also killed. Nobody was ever charged for the killing.
