Handful of musical acts set to perform in third free, neighborhood concert
Music will flow throughout Duboce Park this weekend as part of a free event organizers say intends to bring residents together in celebration of community and live entertainment. Friends of Duboce Park , the 28-year-old nonprofit that organizes Duboce Triangle and Lower Haight residents to help maintain the green space, are hosting the third edition of the Duboce Park jam this Saturday from noon to 5 p.
m. on the upper lawn and the park’s Pierce Street side. Five musical acts will perform, with attendees encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs and picnics to spread throughout the lawn. “ one thing to play a traditional venue, but there is something special about playing outdoors, especially for free,” said Evan Bachmann, the singer and guitarist for the band Middle Dog. Bachmann said Middle Dog’s performance, which runs from 1 to 2 p.m., will provide literal “grassroots” exposure. “It’s pretty cool when someone pauses their day or sticks around just a bit longer because they hear our music and, for one reason or another, it resonates with them,” he said.Olive Pants, who will perform on Duboce Park’s upper lawn from 1 to 2 p.m., said that she is looking forward to “sharing my music with my favorite neighborhood in The City.” Pants, who is moving to a new part of San Francisco, said that Saturday’s Parkjam “feels like a sweet farewell.” “I’ll be singing lots of folksy covers and originals to say my goodbyes,” she said. San Francisco Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg said it is “truly heartwarming to see neighbors continue to come together to host fun, meaningful events that strengthen their connection to one another.” The first Duboce Parkjam was held last August, followed by a second edition this past May. Ginsburg said Duboce Park’s “interactive play area for kids, a wide-open lawn for recreation and a cherished space for dogs” have made the place “a cornerstone of the community for 125 years.” Events like the Duboce Parkjam are “a beautiful reminder of just how vital parks are,” Ginsburg said. “Not only as places to play and relax, but as spaces that help shape the spirit and identity of a neighborhood.” In an unattributed statement, the Friends of Duboce Park’s board members said the nonprofit is “excited to bring ParkJam back for the third time.” “It’s such a fun way for neighbors to come together, enjoy live music and celebrate our community right here in Duboce Park,” the statement continued. “What we look forward to most is seeing the park full of families, friends.” Bachmann of Middle Dog said on Saturday there will be “no ticket sales, no fancy lights — just the music and how it makes people feel.” That coupled with “the beauty of the space and the audience,” he said, will “create this magical connection.”
