Ohio State adds an arm to its quarterback room with the addition of walk-on Mason Maggs from Dublin Coffman.
Maggs, who's listed at 6 feet 3 and 210 pounds, joins a quarterback room depleted by transfer departures. Quinn Ewers, the top-rated player in the 2022 recruiting class, has transferred to Texas. Walk-ons Jagger LaRoe and J.P. Andrade also left. LaRoe recently committed to play for Texas A&M Commerce.
That has left incumbent C.J. Stroud, sophomore Kyle McCord and incoming freshman Devin Brown as the only quarterbacks on the roster. As a senior last year, Maggs passed for 1,786 yards and ran for 861 for the Shamrocks, who went 4-8. He completed 62% of his passes. It was his first season playing quarterback primarily. As a junior, he was mainly a wide receiver. Maggs is unranked by the major recruiting sites.
Maggs is the son of former Ohio State offensive lineman Bob Maggs, who played in the 1980s. He becomes the second Coffman player to commit to the Buckeyes recently, following defensive lineman Will Smith Jr., the son of the late former Buckeye star defensive end.
