Maritzburg were under sustained amount of pressure as another opening fell to Galaxy moments thereafter when Lifa Hlongwane nearly haunted his former side with a promising strike. Galaxy obtained their dominant spell moments in the second half and almost grabbed the lead through a smart effort from Mongae, but it was parried by Engelhardt.
Maritzburg were finally breached within the middle of the second half as Kwem converted from the penalty-spot following a foul on Hlongwane by Keegan Ritchie.
