With the November midterms just months away, the Democratic Socialists of America just released a new platform.

Kiros defeated incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette in the Democratic primary. With the November midterms just months away, the Democratic Socialists of America just released a new platform calling for structural changes to the U.S. government and expanded socialist economic policies. The platform, called “Workers Deserve More,” focuses on shifting structural political and economic power away from corporations and into the hands of the working class.
The DSA released the platform Tuesday, and includes extending full voting rights to people with criminal convictions and noncitizens, replacing the Electoral College with a national popular vote for president, and replacing the two-party system with a multi-party democracy. It also calls for expanding the House and abolishing the Senate. Co-Chair of the DSA, Ashik Siddique, told C-SPAN this week, “We just don't see the point of the Senate.
Historically, it was meant to serve very wealthy people who owned a lot of land and that's still a system that we have today and it's something we would change. ” The platform’s release comes as the organization’s candidates have notched recent primary wins. Including Melat Kiros in Colorado, plus Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier in New York. Jamie Metzl, a lifelong Democrat, former staffer in the Clinton administration, and Founder of OneShared.
World, told The National News Desk this week, Democratic Party leaders should condemn the DSA and its associated candidates.opposing Chevalier, who beat five-term incumbent Adriano Espaillat in New York’s 13th Congressional District primary. He pointed to Chevalier’s public record, including two now-deleted tweets from 2019. One of which reads in part, “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.
” What I'd like to do is have this petition but pressure on Democratic leaders to condemn people like Chevalier, like the woman in Colorado who essentially said that America had 9/11 coming,” Metzl said. I have all kinds of issues with the Republican party. I think every common sense Republican should condemn the January 6th attacks on our nation's Capitol. They should condemn the murder of Renee Good,” Metzl said.
