Workers prepare to remove a blown over big rig from the connector road from the south 15 freeway to the east 60 freeway in Ontario on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023. The rig blew over due to strong Santa Ana winds at approximately 9:15 a.m. causing the connector to be shutdown to traffic.
Forecasters had earlier thought the winds would arrive from the northeast, which would have carried powerful gusts through mountain passes into San Diego County’s open backcountry. But it now appears the winds will arrive directly from the east, blunting their punch a bit. The winds will appear in mid-morning and peak at 20 mph to 25 mph in areas like Alpine, Julian and Campo. Temperatures will be slightly above average, reaching the low to high 70s across San Diego County. The relative humidity inland could drop to 15 percent. But the region won’t get a red flag alert.
The winds will diminish by early Wednesday evening and will be followed by a small warming trend on Thursday.
