Forecasters warned of the possibility of dry lightning in the Bay Area on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
While the chance for thunderstorms is low at 15%, weather service meteorologist Crystal Oudit told SFGATE that the stakes are high amid hot weather and dry summer conditions.
"Even though it's a low probability, it's a high impact situation, as one strike could cause a wildfire," Oudit said on the phone. Oudit said Central California, including Monterey and San Benito counties, will see a chance for thunderstorms Tuesday night, while the Bay Area would be more likely to get hit early Wednesday morning.
The weather update marked a change in the forecast, as this morning meteorologists said weather models showed that there was no chance of thunderstorms developing over the San Francisco Bay Area. Forecasters said if a stray thunderstorm formed, it would happen over the Pacific Ocean. It's not unusual for forecasts to shift and change.
