The 57-year-old man tells Akron police he thought he had been injured in a fall.
AKRON, Ohio — A drunken man found injured from a hit-and-run did not realize he had been struck by a vehicle, instead thinking he was hurt in a fall, police say.
Officers were called to the area of Russell Avenue and Hillcrest Street in the Sherbondy Hill neighborhood at about 11 p.m. Friday. They say the 57-year-old man was “incoherent.” The man was taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Police were called back to the hospital on Saturday and were told by medical workers that the man’s injuries were caused by being struck by a vehicle. The man had to undergo surgery on his spine, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening, police say.
The man told police that although he remembered walking along Hillcrest Street, he had no other memories of what happened. Investigators said that man lives in the area where the incident occurred.
