SANDAKAN: Sabah Customs seized about 50kg of drugs worth about RM2.08mil at the district airport here last week.

During Ops Ice Break II, four local men aged 19 to 23, were arrested after methamphetamine was found in their baggage.Sabah Customs Zone Assistant director-general Datuk Abdullah Jaapar said the discovery was made following manual checks by a team of Customs officers at the Sandakan Airport.

“The suspects have been detained for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.He added that on the same day , Sabah Customs also seized 3kg of methamphetamine worth about RM150,000, which were falsely declared as"tudung" , at the MASkargo facility at Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

A 46-year-old local man and three foreigners comprising two women and a man aged between 19 and 45 years old were arrested in connection with the case.The Malaysian Customs Department launched Ops Ice Breaker II simultaneously nationwide from June 22 until July 5. Customs officers would be stationed at all the country’s entry points in a bid to smash drug trafficking networks.

Abdullah said for the first six months of 2020, Sabah Customs seized drugs with a combined worth of RM 3.5mil from 17 cases across the state.
