SAN PEDRO CITY –– An alleged leader of an illegal drug group in Calamba City in Laguna province was killed in a police shootout, authorities said Tuesday.

Police identified the suspect as Froilan Ibay, a resident of Barangay San Cristobal and leader of the Ibay Drug Group in the province.A report from the Laguna police said Ibay met with undercover policemen and anti-narcotics agents in Barangay Banlic around 9 p.m. on Monday. But during the buy-bust operation, Ibay suddenly drew and fired a .45 caliber gun, forcing authorities to shoot back.
