A fatal shooting in a Forney neighborhood, believed to be the result of a drug deal turned robbery, unfolded just blocks from a middle school. Investigators say the person who first drew a gun is the one who died.
Investigators believe a fatal shooting in a Forney neighborhood might have stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong, evolving into a robbery. Gunfire erupted during the altercation, resulting in one fatality. The individual investigators suspect first drew a weapon is the one who lost their life. This incident unfolded mere blocks away from a Forney ISD middle school .
Newly released arrest records shed light on the events, revealing robbery as the trigger for the shootout in a residential area near Brown Middle School last Friday afternoon. While the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office initially reported two individuals in custody and two gunshot victims, one fatally, they have remained tight-lipped about further developments in the investigation.Through arrest records obtained by FOX 4, it has been uncovered that one of the individuals apprehended is 19-year-old Artinamas Dequann Searcy, now facing charges of capital murder. An arrest warrant alleges that Searcy and a young man named Caden Rider attempted to rob two men inside a Chrysler 300. During the course of the alleged robbery, Rider, according to the warrant, initiated the confrontation by pointing a firearm at the Chrysler’s driver and firing into the vehicle, striking the passenger in the face. The driver of the Chrysler retaliated, returning fire and fatally wounding Rider in the back. The Chrysler sped away from the scene, coming to a halt a few blocks later in the parking lot of Brown Middle School. The passenger, who had been shot in the face, was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, Searcy fled the scene but was apprehended later while walking near the school. While Searcy is not believed to have fired a weapon or possessed one during the shootout, investigators suspect his involvement. Rick Collins, a homeowner in the area, witnessed the aftermath of the shooting. Rider, the fatal victim, fell near Collins’ residence. Collins recounted, “I heard some loud bangs, I thought that was on my door, and it wasn’t. But I went back inside because he saw my face, and I saw his face.” Collins stated that an off-duty police officer residing in the neighborhood promptly came to aid the victim until paramedics arrived. “He started doing chest compressions, CPR. And I knew something was wrong,” Collins said. “He was saying, ‘Stay with me! Stay with me!’” Collins expressed gratitude that no innocent bystanders were injured by stray bullets. Despite acknowledging that his neighborhood is not exempt from crime, he feels secure. “Absolutely. You know why? I pray every morning that God protects our house, put his hold angels around our house,” he stated. The sheriff’s office has yet to provide any updates on the condition of the shooting victim or whether he will face any charges. It remains unclear if the driver of the Chrysler, who returned fire, will face any legal repercussions
