Motorists could also be slapped with penalty points if they're found to be in breach of the rule.

The DVLA has an important rule for any driver that wears glasses, and it could result in a £1,000 fine for people who are found to be breaking it.

As well as this, drivers could even be at risk of invalidating their car insurance policy if they're found to be in breach of the rule - for example, if they cause a road accident and aren't wearing their glasses or lenses at the time. DVLA rules state drivers "must wear glasses or contact lenses every time they drive if they need them to meet the 'standards of vision for driving'".You must be able to read - with glasses or contact lenses, if necessary - a car number plate made after September 1, 2001, from 20 metres away, which drivers are assessed on during their practical tests.

When it comes to reapplying, DVLA will ask you to carry out an eye test with DVSA at a driving test centre.
