Drivers have been warned to avoid this so they don't get hit with a fine

When it comes to having your MOT, the last thing you need is a large bill at the end of it, telling you that your car has many faults. But whilst you may think your car is safe, you could incur a fine for simple cleanliness.

The experts stress that while a dirty car in itself isn't likely to cause you to fail your MOT, there are some caveats to consider. According to Jessica Potts, CMO at BookMyGarage: "While it's likely that your car won't fail just because it's dirty, excessive grime and debris could hinder the tester's ability to perform the inspection and therefore they could refuse to carry it out. However, a car shouldn't reach that condition.

Not only that, but the experts have highlighted that other than fines, not regularly cleaning your car could come at a cost. Regular cleaning should be considered an important part of maintenance just like you would do when you fill up your tyres, engine oil or water. The car repair experts consider dirt to be like sandpaper - when it's left to build up, it can start to erode the surfaces it covers.1.
