Installation leaders announced Tuesday that they are tightening security and increasing safety inspections at all gates.
Drivers on Redstone Arsenal to see an increase in inspectionsHUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Drivers on Redstone Arsenal should expect an increase in inspections while traveling on the installation.
Garrison Commander Col. Brian Cozine says since the passage of Alabama’s permit-less carry law, there has been an uptick in unregistered firearms found during gate checks. In response, law enforcement officers on base will now be initiating additional safety inspections at each gate, some at random. Cozine said these inspections will be to improve and prioritize the safety of those on the installation.
“People first is our number one motto,” he said. “We want to take care of everyone commuting. We want the workforce and the workplaces to be safe and we don’t know the intentions about why a person may bring a weapon on the installation so just keep it away and I think we’ll be a whole lot better.” Cozine also said they plan to bring in K-9 officers for these inspections with the assistance of the Madison County Sheriff’s OfficeCopyright 2024 WAFF.
