A 40-year-old Middlesex County man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike on Friday morning after getting out of his vehicle following a crash, authorities said.
Michael Veisz was driving south on the inner roadway at 5 a.m. about two miles south of Exit 9 in East Brunswick when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash, State Police said. Veisz then exited the car and crossed on foot into the northbound inner roadway where he was hit by a tractor-trailer. Veisz, of Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver stopped and spoke to troopers. State Police had no information on why Veisz tried to walk on the toll road, saying the crash remains under investigation. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
