WEST VALLEY CITY — A driver was taken into custody Monday after police say he ran two red lights, hit another vehicle and then got out and ran from officers.The string of events started about 11 a.m. at 3500 South on the Bangerter Highway.
A West Valley police officer saw a car run a red light and attempted to pull the driver over."The suspect instead turned around at 3100 South and headed south," said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku. "At 3500 South the suspect ran another red light and hit a vehicle."The driver then ran from his wrecked car and police were able to chase him down, she said. One officer suffered an injury not considered to be life-threatening during the arrest, she said. The driver of the other vehicle that was hit was also treated for minor injuries. The driver who police say caused the crash was being checked out at a local hospital before being taken to jail.Bangerter Highway was briefly closed at 3500 South as emergency crews responded to the crash, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. All lanes were open again by noon.This story may be updated.
