Utah troopers say the driver of a box truck was killed after his vehicle rolled and was struck by a semitruck on I-15 this morning.
PAROWAN, Iron County — The driver of a box truck was killed after his vehicle rolled and was struck by a semitruck on I-15 Thursday morning, Utah troopers say.
Utah Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash on southbound I-15 about 10 miles north of Parowan shortly after 5:20 a.m., according to UHP Sgt. Cam Roden. He said the truck was traveling on the freeway when it crashed and rolled over, blocking the southbound lanes. The driver of a semitruck wasn't able to see the box truck "until the last moment" and crashed into its cab as the driver of the semi attempted to avoid the crash, Roden added.
The driver of the box truck, whose name and age were not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene. UHP did not report any other injuries. Roden said it's unclear what caused the box truck to crash, and the crash remains under investigation. Southbound I-15 was closed for several hours while the crash was cleared, but the freeway has since reopened.
