A 46-year-old woman was killed on the Garden State Parkway on Tuesday morning after her SUV struck a wheel that had become dislodged from a pickup following a separate crash, authorities said.
Elaina S. Clarke was driving south at about 5:30 a.m. near milepost 85.7 in Toms River when she hit the wheel, veered of the highway to the left and slammed into the back of the disabled pickup truck that had lost the wheel,Clarke, of Lakehurst, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck was unoccupied as the driver had gotten out following the first crash, officials said.Our journalism needs your support.
