UHP officials say a car crashed into the Tibble Fork River, landing upside down in the water and killing the driver.
AMERICAN FORK — A car crashed into the Tibble Fork River on Thursday, landing upside down in the water and killing the driver, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Just after 9 a.m., troopers were notified of a crash involving an Audi S4 in American Fork Canyon. The vehicle had landed on its hood in the river and a 56-year-old man, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was still inside, according to the UHP. "Upon arrival, troopers found that medical personnel already on the scene and attempting to remove the driver from the vehicle," the UHP stated. "It is believed that the driver was traveling too fast and failed to negotiate a curve based on witness information from up the canyon."
The driver's name has not been released. The road was closed for approximately 2½ hours as emergency crews attended to the victim.
