Driver injured in collision with sheriff's deputy's patrol SUV in South Bay [Breaking]
A 34-year-old woman suffered minor injuries Wednesday evening when her car and a San Diego sheriff’s deputy’s patrol SUV collided in San Diego’s Nestor neighborhood, sheriff’s officials said.
The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. at Hollister Street and Coronado Avenue near an Interstate 5 off-ramp, San Diego sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Posada, from the department’s Imperial Beach substation, said in a news release. According to Posada, the Imperial Beach-based deputy was responding to a “priority emergency call” at the time and his SUV’s lights and sirens were activated as he came up to the intersection of Hollister and Coronado, where there are entrance and exit ramps to south Interstate 5.
After it appeared the other vehicles at the intersection were yielding for him, the deputy drove through the intersection, where his SUV collided with a Ford Mustang whose driver had just exited the freeway, Posada said. The front of the SUV struck the passenger side of the Mustang. The Mustang’s driver complained of back pain and paramedics took her to a hospital, Posada said. The deputy was uninjured.Both vehicles needed to be towed from the scene, Posada said. The San Diego Police Department’s traffic unit was investigating the crash because it happened in the city of San Diego.
