The driver of an Acura SUV engaged in high-speed race with another driver at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday, when the Acura driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen, Oakland Police Department spokesperson Kim Armstead told SFGATE in an email. The deli — which is at the intersection of Franklin and 17th streets — was closed at the time and no one was injured,Video footage from KTVU shows the SUV sitting a few feet from a counter in a pile of rubble.
It’s unclear when the deli will be able to resume operations. Oakland police are urging anyone with information that might assist detectives in their ongoing investigation into the high-speed race and crash to come forward.
