A driver in Layton escaped serious injury after a rear-end collision pushed their car onto train tracks. The incident caused significant damage and delays on the FrontRunner line.
A driver in Layton narrowly escaped being struck by a train after their car was rear-ended and pushed onto the tracks on Tuesday. Around 2:45 p.m., a car was stopped at a FrontRunner crossing on Hill Field Road when it was rear-ended, pushing the vehicle onto the train tracks, according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Gavin Gustafson. The driver was unable to reverse as the car behind it was in the way, but the driver was able to exit the vehicle before the train collided with the car.
There were no injuries on the train or in either car, Layton police said. The vehicle on the tracks suffered extensive damage and the crossing arms and lights were broken in the crash. The train was shut down while crews cleaned up. UTA said a bus bridge was in place between Layton and Clearfield, and delays should be expected for southbound trains from Clearfield to North Temple in Salt Lake City.
