A rollover crash is causing delays on Interstate 293 in Manchester, New Hampshire, Sunday night.
A driver was allegedly speeding while swerving in and out of traffic just before a rollover crash that shutdown several lanes of Interstate 293 in Manchester, New Hampshire, and sent three people to area hospitals Sunday night.
New Hampshire State Police say the single-vehicle crashed occurred on I-293 northbound near the Exit 5 Granite Street overpass just before 8 p.m. Witnesses told police that a BMW SUV was traveling southbound when the driver, identified as Barnaba Madol, lost control, causing the vehicle to go into the center media, rolling over as it crossed over to the northbound side of the highway, where it slid on its roof across I-293.
Madol, 36, of Manchester, was partially thrown out of the BMW's sunroof during the crash and had to be freed from the vehicle by first responders. Madol was taken to Elliott Hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive, police said. All northbound lanes at Exit 5 were closed for about an hour due to the crash, with traffic rerouted through Granite Street and back onto I-293. Drivers were told to anticipate delays and asked to avoid the area if possible.
The crash remains under investigation, however police say witnesses reported that Madol was operating at dangerous speeds and swerving through traffic leading up to the crash. Police say Madol was driving with a suspended license and was summonsed to court later this summer.Additional charges may be forthcoming pending further investigation, police said.
