Every good bar merits a good storyteller, and here are ten books about ten saloons that got what they deserved.
, I had a hard time coming up with more than a handful of examples of the kind of book I wanted to create: a mix of memoir, research, and reporting that captured the life of a neighborhood bar and its role as a meeting place and cultural repository for the community it served. Library catalogs yielded a few more titles and, during the years that I worked on my book, a couple of other top-shelf examples were published. Here are my favorites.
