He's carried away with the help of another motel guest.Dominique Dawes Headlines The 2026 Building Brighter Futures Luncheon Meanwhile, his fellow officer went door-to-door shouting for people to get out and, at one point, crawls into a smoky room on his hands and knees. “It's above and beyond. We're not called to do those things, but he went in there and he chose to do that. He wanted to make sure that that room was clear that nobody was in there,” Hale said.“Nobody helps when you live in a motel,” said Lee Butler, a motel resident.“They're going to give us $100, but they're not giving us cash. They're going to put it on the card that you paid with, which can take three to seven days,” Butler said. “We don't have money to pay for the rooms out of our pocket. We don't even have $50 to our name right now.” Now their pick-up truck is home because they can't afford another room, and like dozens more, their struggle is just beginning. One resident was hospitalized with minor burns, and several others were treated at the scene, police said.
