Good thing these villains didn't stick around long!
Dragon Ball’s Cell is a formidable villain who gave Goku and the rest of the Z-Fighters a hard go of it during his quest to attain perfection, with the appropriately titled Cell Saga often regarded as one of the best arcs in the series.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A tale that technically began with the introduction of the rotund Android 19 and the Dr. Gero-based villain of Android 20, this Androids Saga — often lumped in with the greater Cell Saga — took a deadly turn after Vegeta utterly annihilates Android 19, leading Dr. Gero to activate a pair of even more powerful killing machines in Androids 17 and 18. Doing away with Dr.
But what did this mean for the series? It’s easy to speculate that if Cell was never introduced and if the editorial feelings towards Androids 19 and 20 were shared by fans that the popularity of Dragon Ball might have slowly died off or potentially even ended outright, a tragedy that thankfully never happened.
Cell Was Created After Android 19 and 20 Were Deemed Underwhelming It’s a good thing Toriyama’s editor called out Android 19 and 20 for being the lesser characters they were, as it forced Toriyama to create even better and more deadly foes for Goku and pals to face, resulting in an epic saga and main antagonist who is still influencing Dragon Ball stories today, with Cell Max recently making his big screen debut in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to divisive acclaim.
