) - A draft of a strategic action plan focused on Selma ’s long-term recovery from the devastating 2023 tornado is now in the hands of city officials, marking a major step in the community-led effort known as Selma Now.
The plan focuses on promoting economic growth, protecting natural and cultural resources, and improving residents’ quality of life. Key priorities include boosting tourism, revitalizing neighborhoods, and transforming downtown into a thriving economic center. “It’s a series of recommendations, policies and projects — building upon all of the previous efforts that have taken place before the tornado and after the tornado,” Bias said. City council members have begun reviewing the draft, working to align it with Selma’s specific needs and ensuring it reflects the community’s voice. “We need buy-in because the plan is only as good as those that support and implement it,” said Council President Billy Young.
