'It would have made a big difference to go into lockdown a couple of weeks earlier.'

Dr Michael Mosely has slammed the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, saying that ‘more could have been done.’

Over the last few weeks, lockdown restrictions have begun to be eased across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland – but an estimated 45,000 people have lost their lives during the pandemic.and his government, and said a lot more could have been done sooner. ‘Of course more could have been done. It was obvious a long way back that people in care homes would be hit and we could have protected [people],’ he said.‘It would have made a big difference to go into lockdown a couple of weeks earlier.’

Dr Mosely also stated that one big problem still remaining was the issue of people refusing to wear face masks, he says that messaging was ‘unclear on face masks, whereas it would be nice to have had that taken seriously in February.’One other cause of concern is, of course, a second wave of the virus and a return to the harsher lockdown conditions of a few months ago.

The medical expert warned that a second wave was ‘likely’ to occur later in the year, thanks to the annual flu season.
