Dr. Oz answered my question, he listened to me, gave me his full attention and made me feel like I and my question were important.
My name is Sara, and I am a self-advocate with Down Syndrome. I turned 18 in November 2021, and the May primary was the first time I voted. Before I voted, I wanted to meet the candidates for United States Senate and ask them a question that was important to me and others like me so I could make up my own mind on who to vote for.
I selected a question about S.3301, the Charlotte Woodward Organ Transplant Discrimination Prevention Act, which prohibits covered health care providers from discriminating against people with disabilities seeking an organ transplant because of their disability. If passed, this legislation will uphold, clarify, and build upon rights established in the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehab Act, and the Affordable Care Act. .
Like others with Down Syndrome, it can be hard for me to say some words, and it can take me longer to talk. Because of this, some people don’t always listen to me or will lose interest in what I am saying. But when I asked Dr. Oz my question, he listened to me. There were many people in the room, but he gave me his full attention and made me feel like I and my question were important.
I feel that listening and caring for all your constituents is important in a senator. I am supporting Dr. Mehmet Oz for U.S. Senate because of his response to my question.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
