Dr. Anthony Fauci said Monday the United States' handle on the COVID-19 outbreak is “really not good” and that action is needed to curb the spread.
WASHINGTON — Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Monday that the United States' handle on the coronavirus outbreak is “really not good” and that action is needed to curb the spread.
New cases in the U.S. have reached record highs, climbing to around 50,000 a day. Nearly 3 million Americans have contracted the virus, with more than 130,000 deaths, according to data from John Hopkins University. “A series of circumstances associated with various states and cities trying to open up in the sense of getting back to some form of normality has led to a situation where we now have record-breaking cases,” Fauci said in the chat with NIH Director Francis Collins.
According to John Hopkins University, at least 32 states are reporting higher rates of new cases this week compared to priors.
