Downtown’s most passionate defenders tout the Arts District, the five-minute walk to the closest DART station and greenspaces like Pacific Plaza that changed a sea of parking lots into a pedestrian corridor.Never-ending road construction, speeding cars, dog and human feces on sidewalks and in alleyways. Some businesses have started constructing metal barriers around doors to stop people, many presumed to be experiencing homelessness, from wandering in and grabbing merchandise or food from storefronts.The good news is fewer crimes are reported overall year over year. There are fewer auto thefts and burglaries, which tend to make up the majority of the crimes reported in the area.Most of it is centered around areas stretching from Elm Street to the north and I-30 to the south. That’s bound to worry those who have been celebrating two years of declines in violent crime downtown.
