Presidential election front-runner, Prabowo Subianto, to continue the plans
Subianto would also continue with Indonesia's neutral stance on the world stage and welcome business globally, he said. "Businesses from the mainland have been instrumental in developing our nickel industry. Indonesia is the number one, the premier producer of refined nickel in the world and largely because of Chinese investment," he said, according to event organiser, the South China Morning Post. Subianto would continue to leverage the downstreaming policies, he said.
About a third of those polled said they'd vote for Ganjar Pranowo, and about one in five chose Anies Baswedan. Pranowo has also indicated that he would continue Widodo's downstream policies. The polls have seen Subianto and Pranowo jostling as front-runner for much of the year. Widodo, who must step down next year due to the country's two-term limit, has fiercely pursued commodity downstreaming. And the popular president's support for a candidate could swing the election.
