U.S. stocks opened higher on Thursday after the U.S. and China agreed to restart trade talks in early October, allaying for now fears of a further escalation of trade tensions. The S&P 500 SPX, +1.41% was up 0.7% to 2,959. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 312 points, or 1.
2%, to around 26,664. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +1.66% climbed 1.1% to 8,066. U.S. equity benchmarks are on course for weekly gains. In economic data, Automatic Data Processing reported that private-sector employers had added 195,000 jobs in August, up from 142,000 in the previous month.
