The Dow jumped more than 450 points after President Trump said he’s being discharged from the hospital
Stocks jumped Monday afternoon after President Donald Trump announced he would be discharged from Walter Reed Medical Center at 6:30 p.m., with all of the main indexes adding close to 2%, as Wall Street eyes President Trump's Covid-19 recovery and the ongoing potential for successful stimulus negotiations.The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 460 points, or 1.7%, while the S&P 500 added 1.8%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq climbed 2.3%.
International markets were fairly tepid on Monday; the CAC 40 was up less than 1%, while Japan's Nikkei 225 was up 1% and the U.K.'s FTSE 100 was up .6%.President Trump fueled stimulus talks this weekend while hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center after testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday, urging Congress to pass another aid bill in a tweet that said: “WORK TOGETHER AND GET IT DONE.
