Stocks ended mostly higher Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.85% and the S&P 500 SPX, +0.23% each posting a record close after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell boosted investor expectations for a rate cut at the end of the month. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.

The Dow advanced around 228 points, or 0.8%, to finish near 27,088, while the S&P 500 rose nearly 7 basis points to end just shy of the 3,000 mark.
