Anyway, if an Indigenous person teases you, take it as a compliment because it means they’re your friend.
In fact, the Cree and Saulteaux have a close language as both are members of the Algonquin language group. There is also a joking relationship where the two groups can insult and joke about each other without mercy. Back in the early 1700s, the Cree and Saulteaux made an agreement to live in peace and join with the Nakota to form the “Iron Nation.” They called it the Iron Nation because they had firearms they had purchased from the Hudson’s Bay Company.Article content
In any event, the alliance was agreed upon, but one problem remained. What would they do since they could no longer go to war with each other? After some deliberation it was agreed that both sides could make jokes and insult each other without retribution. It was a sort of safety valve.
