'I think we have to just look at the fact that President Trump could win this race regardless of who his vice president is,' he said.
Share on linkedin North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum speaks to guests at Ashley's BBQ Bash hosted by Congresswoman Ashley Hinson on August 06, 2023 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. said Sunday that Trump doesn't need to pick a vice presidential candidate to cater to certain voter blocs, as he's polling so well.Trump added that the person he's picked doesn't know it yet, and it was unclear from his comments when he planned to tell them.
The Republican governor added that vice presidents historically don't swing an election one way or another. "And with President Trump right now, where he is with Hispanics, with blacks, with people under age 30 and with independents, I mean, he's very strong across the board. So he can pick someone that you can focus on, like, hey, let's get someone who gets stuff done. Let's get someone who helps him govern."Burgum did not directly answer questions from CNN's Kaitlan Collins regarding why he is a strong candidate to be Trump's VP.
Burgum said it is up to Trump to decide if he's the best choice to be on the ticket, and what makes the governor suited for the job is "a conversation between President Trump and myself."
