The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has submitted a proposal for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project that is aimed at increasing the passenger capacity and improving the services at the NAIA. | ManilaBulletin
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said the joint proposal was crafted with the Manila International Airport Authority and was submitted on Saturday, June 3, to the National Economic Development Authority for approval.Based on the DOTr-MIAA joint proposal, the government will tap a private concessionaire to invest in modern air traffic control equipment, rehabilitate runways and taxiways, and improve existing terminal facilities.
“The project aims to increase the capacity of NAIA and ensure safe operations while significantly improving the passenger experience at the airport through shorter waiting and processing times, more comfortable and modern facilities, and better connectivity between terminals,” said Bautista. This was further aggravated by the power outages since last year that resulted in the delay of the flights and thousands of passengers stranded—the recent was the technical glitch that triggered a power outage in January this year at the NAIA.
Early last month, another power outage hit the NAIA Terminal 3--which later forced the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to shut down Philippine airspace for almost two hours for maintenance.
