Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista on Friday expressed support for a privatized busway system, saying doing so would enhance the efficiency and operations of the transportation system.

Bautista so remarked on the sidelines of the unveiling of a new busway station in Ayala which would cater to passengers bound for the south.

“It's a very welcome development... It will provide a safe, accessible, and convenient travel experience to our passengers,” said the DoTr chief in Raffy Tima’s report on “24 Oras”. “We can do even better if we privatize the busway system…Kailangan siguro gawin natin as soon as possible. Kapag na privatized to magiging more efficient ang operations ,” he added.Apart from buses, UV express drivers can also use the new station in dropping off and picking up their passengers. Because it is connected to MRT-3, commuters may use it to transfer to another ride.

“The masterplan was initiated by Ayala Land, and as mentioned earlier it's really to address the needs of our commuters. And of course, we partnered with the Department of Transportation and also with MMDA,” Ayala Land Makati Estate Manager Sheila Aguilar said. With the planned interconnectivity of the bus, UV, and railway systems in Metro Manila, the DoTr is hoping those who have private cars will choose to ride mass transportation as long as the facilities they will use will remain clean and secure.
