DAVID MUNDEE Jada Newman struck out 11 and pitched shutout ball for six innings, while Makenna Descalzi and Kinley German both had three hits to lead Dothan to an 8-2 win over Dale County on Thursday in the season opener for both teams.
Dothan scored a run in both the first and third innings, two in the fourth and four in the fifth in building an 8-0 lead. Dale County scored two runs in the top of the seventh to ruin the shutout. Newman pitched six plus innings, giving up the two runs in the seventh before being relieved. She walked three in addition to striking out 11. Savanna Kendrick got the final three outs, one on a strikeout, while giving one hit. Descalzi had a single, a run-scoring double and an RBI single. German had two singles, a double and also drew a walk in going 3-for-3. Kendrick had two hits with two RBI and Sara Harris also had two hits for the Wolves.
