The training hopes to provide comfort to students and parents as the school year approaches.
DOTHAN, Ala. - Flowers Hospital is partnering with Dothan City Schools to give school nurses training ahead of the new school year.“Now, with the things that are changing, healthcare is different now and the kids are able to go to school with these diagnoses. This was a great help for us,” said school nurse, Jacquelyn Pearc.
The training took nurses through how to clean and take care of a tracheostomy tube, an instrument that maintains a patient’s airway and provides stable oxygen flow. While some nurses have not encountered students with these tubes, they are now ready for the day they come across one. “Perhaps it may have been needed in the past, but it seems like it is just even more intentional now,” explained Chief Nursing Officer Dan Cumbie. “I don’t know if it’s just that we’re identifying it more or it’s just more prevalent. But it’s something that’s definitely needed.”and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
