DAVID MUNDEE Former Dothan High standout and current Auburn pitcher Chase Allsup admits he has mixed emotions on the upcoming MLB Draft, set for Sunday through Tuesday.
The MLB Draft starts Sunday night with the first two rounds, followed by rounds 3-10 on Monday and concluding with rounds 11-20 on Tuesday. The draft is being held in Fort Worth, Texas, in conjunction with MLB All-Star Game Week. As a junior, Allsup, who made the 2024 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll,has options to go pro or return to Auburn if he feels like he can help raise his stock with another year of college play.
Allsup had an up-and-down career at Auburn. He started out as a reliever in his first year, appearing in 23 games and finishing with a 1-0 record, 3.38 ERA and 36 strikeouts and 17 walks in 29 1/3 innings. In his sophomore season, he rotated between reliver and starter, appearing in 20 games, eight as a starter, and had a 1-2 record, a 5.47 ERA with 49 strikeouts and 33 walks.
“I felt it went well,” Allsup said of the season overall. “There were ups and downs as there are in every season. I feel like I have grown more from this season than I have in the last couple of seasons in having to overcome some adversity. I feel it kind of made me the kind of player I am now.”
