Principal Chris Payne does more than just sit at a desk and attend meetings.
“I was an art teacher for 21 years,” said Carver MST Principal Chris Payne.Over the years, Principal Chris Payne has found a way to combine the two.
“I had been teaching for a long time and got to the point in my career where I wanted to do a little more,” said Payne. “To have a bigger opportunity to make a difference.” He didn’t know what was in store going from a high school art teacher to an elementary school principal, but he was up for the challenge of this new role.
“It’s high fives everyday,” said Chris. “Smiles all the time. I have to get after it as fast as these kids are running down the hallway.”He can be seen painting murals on the walls and dressing up in costumes to greet students.“This was one of my Jedi costumes, I’ve got about 50 light sabers over there,” said Payne when showing off his costume collection.
“I want to be the first face they see when they arrive at school, and the last face they see as well,” said Payne.“I’ve raised my kids in Dothan city schools,” said Payne. “I’ve sacrificed a lot of time to try to make citizens that can go out in the world and make a difference, and hopefully my children can follow in their footsteps.”The leaders he’s molded will never forget the positive impact he’s made on their lives.
