He passed away on August 5 in a Nashville hospital at 83.
Kirkland played guitar, fiddle, banjo and bass guitar, famously touring with legendary artists Jim and Jesse and the Virginia Boys, Jimmy C. Newman, and the Osborne Brothers . He also toured with the Queen of Country Music, Kitty Wells. His music career spanned over 50 years.
Kirkland appeared on the Grand Ole Opry beginning in 1961 and appeared on many television shows, including Country Comes Home, Backstage at the Opry, and Porter Wagoner Show. Aside from touring with several music groups, Kirkland also had a successful solo career.
