Dothan Houston County Library System Director Chris Warren discusses the latest selection for Chapter Chat, a book about a woman returning home to Georgia to confront her past. The discussion focuses on themes of forgiveness, family secrets, and hope amidst trauma.
DOTHAN , Ala. - Director of the Dothan Houston County Library System Chris Warren, joined News4 This Morning to talk the latest Chapter Chat .is a bittersweet tale about a woman returning to her once home on the coast of Georgia to face the ghosts of her past.
“She is returning to her hometown after eight years,” Warren said. “She has a daughter who’s eight, who is the...her birth is the result of when Sarah was sexually assaulted. But she’s returning to take care of her ailing father and take care of a bookstore. “You, of course, have all of these secrets and all of this tension, of course, around all of those things. But I think one of my favorite things about this book is we’re handling a lot of very difficult, very heavy, very traumatic things with care and hope. And I think that those two things really make this book a very special one when you’re considering it against other books with similar themes.” The messages of hope through the darkest of situations and the ability to forgive are ones that Warren hopes a reader is instantly drawn to when reading“You’ve got all of these family secrets and troubles that you’re trying to uncover and Sarah really does a good job of confronting those and dealing with them throughout the course of the book,” Warren said. “Whether it’s yourself, whether it’s people who have wronged you in the past or things like that, this book has a really good lesson for readers when it comes to that.” “I think that, especially if you read it while you were in school for required reading, it’s definitely good to go back and revisit it,” Warren said. “Betrayal is sort of central to the entire plot. But again, it’s a very dark, very passionate novel.” You can check out this heavy tale and any other books by visiting any of the Dothan Houston County Library System locations or by downloading copies through Libby.
