The dyes listed include Red Dye 40, which is commonly found in snacks like Doritos and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Also mentioned was Yellow 5, an additive in Mountain Dew and M&Ms. “California has a responsibility to protect our students from chemicals that harm children and that can interfere with their ability to learn,” Assemblymember Gabriel. “As a lawmaker, a parent and someone who struggled with ADHA, I find it unacceptable that we allow foods with additives that are linked to cancer, hyperactivity, and neurobehavioral harms to be served to our children.

Frito Lays, which makes a number of products that could be affected by the bill, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The National Desk Friday.four food additives, including brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben and Red Dye 3. Though the measure received attention for being a “Skittles ban,” none of those ingredients appear in the candy. An earlier version of the bill had mentioned titanium dioxide, which is used in Skittles.
