Dorian Thompson-Robinson berated himself for the 2 picks, but did they cost him the starting job?
Dorian Thompson-Robinson berates himself for 2 picks vs. the Bengals, but did they cost him the next start? Mary Kay CabotCleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson prepares to throw a pass as Cleveland Browns guard Germain Ifedi blocks on Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson in the second half.CINCINNATI, Ohio — Dorian Thompson-Robinson didn’t pray for deliverance from his interceptions like Jameis Winston before him.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Thompson-Robinson was picked off on his next drive on a deep ball intended for Njoku down the deep right side with 8:20 remaining and the Browns still trailing only 17-6. That ball was tipped by a Cincy defender before safety Geno Stone swiped it. “The second one, bonehead mistake on my part, trying to make a play, give my best guy a shot with Dave, and that’s something we always harp on and preach, me and him personally. So just trying to give him a shot in that moment didn’t go our way. And again, that falls on me.”No. Kevin Stefanski said he’ll get the nod again “if he’s healthy, and he should be.”
“Obviously, you turn the ball over inside the red zone — especially the first one, get a good drive going and turn it over there on the 1,” Stefanski said. “Then, another good drive going and a couple of penalties back us up and then you throw an interception. So, really disappointing to put ourselves in the hole there when it comes to a turnover standpoint. Ultimately, you’re not going to put yourself in position to go get a win on the road — not a lack of effort. That’s not the issue.
“Shoot, we always feel like we have a chance until we don’t,” Thompson-Robinson said. “And even on that last drive, we’re calling no huddle, trying to score again even though the game’s out of reach. So that’s just the mentality of this team. That’s the mentality of Coach Stefanski and the culture that we set here that we’re always going to keep swinging. We’re always going to try and win the game even if things don’t work out that way. And like I said, we just didn’t get it done today.
